The 8th International Young Scholars Shenzhou Forum - Energy Sub-Forum Successfully Held

At 14:00 on July 25, the Energy Sub-forum of the 8th International Young Scholars Shenzhou Forum was successfully held in a hybrid online-offline format at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). Five distinguished young scholars from renowned institutions worldwide participated in the forum, including the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel), Utrecht University (Netherlands), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Texas A&M University (USA), and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The forum was chaired by Professor Zhang Silong from the School of Energy Science and Engineering with Vice Dean Qi Hong delivering the opening speech. In his speech, Vice Dean Qi warmly welcomed all participating scholars on behalf of the School. He comprehensively introduced the school’s disciplinary strengths, faculty resources, and emerging research directions under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. He extended sincere invitations to the scholars, encouraging them to join HIT and pursue their academic dreams at this prestigious institution.

The forum featured academic presentations by Dr. Li Yuke from the Weizmann Institute of Science “Mechanisms of chaotic flow in viscoelastic fluids through straight channels”, Dr. Yang Tianrun from Utrecht University “Seasonal thermal energy storage: Exploring the transition to clean heating”, Dr. Wang Yanwen from Shanghai Jiao Tong University “Distribution characteristics and pyrolysis mechanisms of shale oil in bubbling bed retorting”, Dr. Gong Xiangtao from Texas A&M University “Dry processing technology for lithium-ion battery electrode manufacturing”, and Dr. Li Ziliang from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences “Flow mechanisms and control methods in high-load centrifugal compressors”. Each presentation was followed by vibrant discussions among participants.

Young faculty representatives including Han Lei, Li Biao, Guo Yangyu, and Pan Ruming shared their experiences working at HIT, academic career development strategies, and insights on applying for young talent programs. The forum maintained an energetic atmosphere throughout, with all participants actively exchanging academic perspectives and sharing visions for the future of energy research.
