Recently, the School of Energy Science and Engineering organized a delegation of faculty and students to conduct a practical research visit to Harbin Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. . The visit provided an up-close experience of the manufacturing prowess behind major national projects and explored career opportunities in the equipment manufacturing sector.
A key highlight of the activity was a tour of the Power Generation Equipment Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center, jointly established by Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Electric Machinery. On-site, the participants experienced a remote operation and maintenance system developed by the university's research team. In front of the exhibition section titled The Eldest Son of the Republic's Power Generation Equipment at the factory history museum, the faculty and students gained a vivid understanding of China's leapfrog development in power generation equipment—from technological introduction to independent innovation—by comparing Soviet-aided equipment with the world's largest self-developed hydropower unit in terms of single-unit capacity. This experience deepened their appreciation of the Harbin Institute of Technology spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle.
