ØProf. Jan Klsissel ’s Report on “Effect of Cool Walls on Neighboring Buildings and Pedestrian Thermal Comfort

On the afternoon of August 19, Professor Jan Klsissel, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Associate, University of California, gave an academic report titled” Effect of Cool Walls on Neighboring Buildings and Pedestrian Thermal Comfort” to the participants, hoping that students could have a new ideas to dealing with sustainable energy problem.

Firstly, Prof. Jan Klsissl started class by the discussion of comfortable apparent temperature in life, attracting students' attention. The cooling wall could applied to the architectural design to achieve the cooling effect, by the means of reducing the absorption and increasing the reflection of solar radiation. Through the practice of the principle and formula, Prof. Jan Klsissl described the application advantages of the cooling wall and the key points of the technology to the students.

ØProf. Dazhi Yang ’s Report on “probabilistic forecasting

On the morning of August 19, Professor Dazhi Yang, the subject editor of Solar Energy, Member of International Solar Energy Society, Senior research fellow, Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, gave an academic report titled” probabilistic forecasting”. This course starts with the forecast verification of solar engineering, and introduces the forecast verification in the actual engineering model calculation to the students.

Such as the ground radiation problems, considering different variables such as cloud cover, types of atmospheric particles, and other atmospheric influence factors, it adopt different models for forecast, leading to have different results. Therefore, the goal of forecast verification is to obtain the optimal solution on the consideration of the error.

ØProf. Huaichun Zhou 's Report on Measuremental Visualization of High Temperature and Its Distribution in Energy and Power Equipment

The 2019 New Energy Series International Summer School will continue at 8:30 am on August 21. The first class was taught by Professor Huaichun Zhou, dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Northeastern Electric Power University. The subject of this course is Measuremental Visualization of High Temperature and Its Distribution in Energy and Power Equipment. I hope that students will encounter temperature measurement methods through the visualization of the measurement of high temperature in energy and power equipment and their distribution. Provide new reference ideas when waiting for questions.

Professor Huaichun Zhou first started with the challenges faced by high-temperature industrial furnaces and boilers and the status quo of on-line process detection of high-temperature furnaces, expounding the difficult causes of industrial boiler measurement, and then the measurement of combustion temperature and the visualization of 2D/3D temperature distribution. Some future developments have presented their own unique insights. Professor Zhou mainly introduced the two-color method of gray body measurement and multi-spectral measurement technology, and the students listened with great interest. He explained the formulas and models, and listed relevant case arguments, so that the students can better understand, the students are deeply inspired.

ØProf. Vladimir Terzija 's Report on Challenges with Smart Grid and Introduction to Synchronized Measurement Technology

On August 21st, the 2019 New Energy Summer School was awarded “Challenges with Smart Grid and Introduction to Synchronized Measurement Technology” by Vladimir Terzija of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester. Prof. Vladimir Terzija is a professor of electrical systems engineering at the EPSRC School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. From December 2000 to July 2006, he worked as an expert on switching equipment and distribution automation at ABB AG. This course focuses on the knowledge of grid safety systems.

Professor Vladimir Terzija started his introduction of his Chinese name and immediately mobilized the classroom atmosphere. Then the professor sketched the grid on the small blackboard to help the students understand. The professor focused on the 160th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, the challenges facing the UK today, examples of wide-area monitoring systems, GB projects, and the islanding of power outage prevention systems, and summarized them. He often walked down the classroom to interact with the students. The scene was very warm and was loved by the students.

ØExpert Yong Sun 's Report on Combined Heat and Power Scheduling Control Technology Considering Wind Power

Time is running out, the 2019 New Energy Series International Summer School has come to the last day. At 8:30 am on August 23, expert Yong Sun makes a report. He is the State Grid Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd. Power Dispatching Control Center. Director of the Department of Hydropower and New Energy, has published more than 30 papers in internationally renowned high-quality journals. According to expert Yong Sun, by the end of 2018, China's wind power and solar power generation installed capacity ranked first in the world, which is equal to the sum of the installed capacity of the second to fifth places. Such a large installed capacity of new energy brings many problems. The operation mode of the “heat-set” power plant puts high requirements on the peak-shaving capability of the generator set, which directly affects the wind power consumption. Based on these questions, the theme of this lesson: the thermal-electrical combined dispatch control technology and application considering wind power consumption has begun.

The quality of the grassroots construction determines the height of the top-level building. Yong Sun first explained the basic research of the project to the participants, modeling and characterization of complex urban heating systems. Then through the experiment and exploration through modeling and research, the key technology of thermal-electric combined optimization operation strategy and control is obtained. Finally, the research and development process of the combined heat-electricity control system for improving wind power consumption is briefly introduced. The students followed the progress of the report and showed great interest.

ØSenior Engineer Lei Gao 's Report on Power System Dynamic Stability Analysis and Control report

At 10:10 am on August 23, Lei Gao, a senior engineer from the China Electric Power Research Institute, brought a wonderful lesson to the students of the summer school. At the beginning of the report, engineer Lei Gao asked two questions: How to solve the actual grid problem with basic theory? What is the significance of the work of power system modeling?  Teacher Lei Gao hopes that the students will always think about these two problems during the course of the lecture, so that they can develop scientific research ideas.

Because the scale of the power grid is constantly expanding, PSS (Power System Stabilizer) that meets actual needs and has reasonable parameters in actual engineering problems is one of the important measures to improve the dynamic stability of the power grid. Taking the engineering problems he encountered in his work for many years as an example, Mr. Gao explained the PSS function principle and the PSS parameter optimization research in practical application to the students in a simple way.
