School of Energy Science and Engineering Successfully Hosts HIT-Hong Kong Region Joint International Summer School

2026-08-16 10

In July 2026, the 2026 Undergraduate International Summer School on Smart Low-Carbon Energy & Aerospace Propulsion, hosted by the School of Energy Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), was successfully held. With the support of the university's Office of International Cooperation under the Global Vision Enhancement Program, the participants, led by Professor Yu Jianyang from the School of Energy Science and Engineering, continued their journey to Hong Kong from August 2 to 4 to take part in the HIT-Hong Kong Region Joint International Summer School activities.

During their exchange at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), under the guidance of Professor Xu Chunbao and Associate Professor An Liang's teams, the participants engaged in in-depth study and discussions with local Hong Kong university students on topics related to new energy technology innovation and carbon emission management. The curriculum closely aligned with China's national dual carbon strategy and the developmental needs of the new energy industry, covering core themes such as renewable energy development and utilization, novel energy storage technologies, carbon emission accounting systems, low-carbon city construction, industrial emission reduction technologies, and green energy system optimization. In addition, the students took part in hands-on practice with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, further deepening their understanding of new energy power conversion processes.

During their exchange visit to the Industrial Transformation Base of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the participants focused on technology R&D and industrialization of outcomes in the fields of new energy, low-carbon technologies, and intelligent equipment. Through project observations, mentor-led lectures, case studies, and group discussions, they systematically learned about the complete pathway of university scientific and technological innovations from laboratory to market, successfully completing their overseas summer practice mission. This study tour effectively helped the participants shift their research mindset and establish an engineering practice philosophy rooted in grounding in theory and serving industry. The students gained firsthand insight into the complete processes of engineering commissioning, iterative optimization, and large-scale implementation of cutting-edge technologies, developed a deep understanding of key factors such as cost control, performance optimization, and market adaptation, and clearly grasped the differences between the Mainland and Hong Kong/Macao in terms of science and technology innovation commercialization systems, as well as the unique advantages of the Greater Bay Area's green industry development.
