Briefing on 2021 Summer School on Energy & 2nd Fluid Mechanics Webinars

At 9:30 on June 29th, 2021 (GMT+8:00), the opening ceremony of 2021 Summer School on Energy & 2nd Fluid Mechanics Webinars was ceremoniously held. This summer school is hosted by the School of Energy Science and Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology.  


In this summer school, we invited experts and scholars from California Institute of Technology, University of Bristol, University of Sheffield, Southern Methodist University, University of Manchester, Weizmann Institute of Science, Nanyang Technological University, University of Cambridge, Harbin Institute of Technology and University of Minnesota conducting academic exchanges on international frontier issues in the fields of fluid mechanics.


The summer school attracted over 400 students all over the world for the summer school to file their applications. After a careful selection, 325 of them were admitted. Among them, there are students from famous university aboard like Imperial College London and from top domestic university like Tsinghua University. Due to the pandemic, all students will participate via Zoom in this summer school.


In the opening ceremony, Sophia Liu, the deputy director of IPO, expressed her welcome to all the students for their active participation and wished the summer school a wonderful success. Associate Professor Lei Han, Vice Coordinator of the 2nd Fluid Mechanics Webinars, briefly introduced the School of Energy Science and Engineering and its achievements in the last 5 years. As the representative of all lecturers, Prof. Tim Colonius from California Institute of Technology encouraged students to ask questions and hoped they have a better insight in the field of fluid mechanics at the end of the summer school. After that, Ruiqi Huang from Imperial College London and Congren Zheng from Harbin Institute of Technology gave their speeches as representatives of all participants. In the end, Prof. Zijing Ding, Coordinator of the 2nd Fluid Mechanics Webinars delivered his opening speech and wished the summer school a successful one.
